ANTON-RANDA-AWARD FOR EXCELLENT YOUNG RESEARCHERS
The Sozietät Jürgen Geiling & Partner has been active in the Czech Republic and Slovakia in the field of tax and business law since 1989 and, together with its Czech partners, has built up an extensive network in Prague between the neighboring countries. Since then, this network has provided companies in these countries with advice on all business and legal matters. Indirectly, this work has also strengthened international understanding between the Czech Republic, Germany and Slovakia.
With the Anton Randa Award, the Sozietät Jürgen Geiling & Partner would like to support scholars and students who deal with Eastern European law in their bachelor‘ s/master‘s thesis or dissertation in the field of law or economics and thus make a contribution to international understanding.
Anton Ritter von Randa, also known as Antonín Randa after whom this award is named, was an Austrian lawyer who studied law in Prague. In addition, he also became an associate professor in private law at this university and taught therein Czech.
In 1861, Anton Randa co-founded the legal journal Právnik, where he wrote numerous articles on Austrian civil law. Only three years later in 1864 Randa founded the legal association „Právnická jednota“ in Prague together with other doctors. In addition, he also wrote numerous articles in German for German journals, such as the Archiv für Wechsel- und Handelsrecht and the Österreichische Gerichtszeitung.
In his scientific publications, Anton Randa mainly dealt with Austrian private law. He also made a valuable contribution to the field of commercial law with his theory of the acquisition of ownership of securities and dealt with some important European legal norms. He was awarded an honorary doctorate for his achievements in 1888 by the University of Bologna and two years later by the University in Cracow.
