Preamble
The Anton-Randa-Award is intended to encourage and support legal and economic scholars to deal with Eastern European law in their academic work and thus to make a contribution to international understanding.
§ 1 General information
(1) As a rule, the Sozietät Jürgen Geiling & Partner awards the Anton-Randa-Award once a year in recognition of outstanding work in law or economics.
Lawyers and economists are eligible for the award.
The aim is to encourage and support them in their work on Eastern European law in the fields of law and economics.
(2) The prize is awarded annually by Mr. Christian Geiling or another member of the jury, without recourse to legal action. It is endowed with a monetary amount.
§ 2 Requirements
The prize is intended for students and young academics who have written a bachelor's or master's thesis or dissertation that:
a) was written in German or English in the field of law or economics.
b) was evaluated with the grade very good or at least magna cum laude.
c) deals in its core with a legal or economic field of Eastern European law..
d) is submitted to the Sozietät Jürgen Geiling & Partner within three years after the submission of the thesis to the university or college.
§ 3 Procedure
Students and academics should send their applications to the Sozietät Jürgen Geiling & Partner by 31.8. of the year preceding the respective award at the latest.
Bachelor‘s/Master‘s theses or dissertations may be submitted, along with a proof of their grading.
In addition, a recommendation from the responsible supervisor of the bachelor‘s/master‘s thesis or dissertation or another professor can optionally be included. Theform for the recommendation will be provided within the call for proposals.
§ 4 Announcement
(1) The announcement of the award is made annually via the official website of the Anton-Randa-Award.
(2) In this context, the announcement shall contain information on:
§ 5 Prize money
One bachelor's or master's thesis and one dissertation are awarded annually.
The prize money is graded according to the type of thesis:
§ 6 Awarding of prizes
(1) A jury of four members will decide on the awarding of the prize. These consist of the lawyer Christian Geiling, representing the Sozietät Jürgen Geiling und Partner, and the three professors of the University of Passau: Prof. Dr. Urs Kramer (Dean of the Faculty of Law and Chair of Public Law), Prof. Dr. Michael Beurskens (Chair of Civil Law, German, European and International Business Law) and Prof. Dr. Rainer Wernsmann (Chair of Constitutional and Administrative Law, in particular Finance and Tax Law).
(2) The jury decides by majority vote of its members. In case of resignation or permanent prevention, the remaining jury shall appoint a new member.
(3) The decision shall be made within four months of the expiry of the submission deadline.
§ 7 No legal claim
There is no legal claim to the Anton-Randa-Award.
§ 8 Entry into force
This guideline will come into force after announcement and will be published on the official website of the Anton-Randa-Award.
